About Lisa Marie Mercer

Lisa Marie Mercer
Author and Fitness Expert Lisa Marie Mercer, seen here in Breckenridge, Colorado, USA.

What a long strange trip it’s been. Wiser words have never been spoken. One day, it will all make sense, but for now, I almost enjoy the state of perpetual wonder. I’d rather ask “What’s it all about?” than “Is that all there is?”

So who am I? I’m a fitness and travel writer, exploring the world and sharing my insights. After several years living, skiing, working, and owning a business in Colorado, I now live in South America, in the lovely seaside resort town of Atlántida. I was born in New York City, and have lived in Boston, Colorado, North Carolina and Washington State. I entered the fitness industry in 1973, back when Ms. Fonda was still hanging out with Ho Chi Minh, and I continue to write hopefully informative and enlightening fitness and travel articles.

If my name sounds vaguely familiar, you might have seen my work in publications such as Aspen Magazine, HerSports, 32Degrees, Fitness Plus and other print and online publications.

I blog about my life as an expat in Uruguay at Uruguay Expat Life (UruguayExpat.Info) and my writing work at LisaMarieMercer.com.

You can find more of my daily posts and thoughts by at Google+ and Following me on Twitter. My professional profile is available on LinkedIn.

You can read about my published books and buy my books at Amazon.

I created this blog to share my published work and expertise with my readers.

  1. Hi Lisa,

Great piece in USA Today on California's lakeside vacations! What other articles are you currently working on? I represent the Wuksachi Lodge located in the heart of Sequoia National Park. If you think you might be interested in doing a piece on national parks in the future, I'd be happy to share the secrets of Sequoia, from getting there tips and all the 'must-do' activities. Drop a line if you'd like, and we can chat about things a bit!

  2. My husband and I are contemplating moving to your part of the world. Fortunately, we both have social security and VA Benefits, unfortunately we spent our “nest egg” on property in Central Mexico that we cannot sell; I have managed a nonprofit for over 20 years. We lease 3 acres, a swimming pool, and 6 buildings for $150USD a month in an indigenous village.
My PhD is in sociocultural studies, special education, and bilingual education. I can also offer TEFL certificates, teach English, and run a vegan restaurant. I too am an health/fitness nut. I have kept my husband alive since 2002 when all medical people doubted that possibility.
Would love to dialogue with you. jzm@email.arizona.edu

  3. Lisa, can you help us find an internship for a great NEU (Boston)  student in the medical sector, preferably working with kids?  Just some ideas and our Directora en Montevideo can follow up?  I work with Adelante Abroad, and we place college age interns for 2 – 6 months in 10 Spanish speaking cities worlwide – we have added Uruguay (it is a favorite place of mine!) and really want to introduce more young people to this amazing place in internship settings, not just sitting in a classroom all day.  Ideas? kimberly@adelanteabroad.com

    Un saludo cordial – Kimbely
